Getting started
What is Maxxer?
Maxxer is a macOS productivity tracker. It sits quietly in the background, measures actions per minute (APM) and focus time, and gives you streaks, goals, and a leaderboard so effort compounds instead of drifting.
Which Macs are supported?
Maxxer requires macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later, on Apple Silicon or Intel. It runs entirely on-device — you can use it fully offline.
How do I install it?
Once your account is set up, sign in on maxxer.app to download the .dmg. Drag Maxxer to Applications, launch it, and grant the Accessibility permission macOS asks for (this is what lets Maxxer count keystrokes and window focus without reading their contents).
Privacy & data
Does Maxxer read what I type?
No. Maxxer counts keystrokes — how many keys you pressed and roughly when. It never reads what those keys spell out. See our Privacy Policy for the full breakdown.
Does my data go to the cloud?
Only if you turn on cloud sync or leaderboards. By default all data is stored locally in your macOS user library and never leaves your device.
How do I delete my data?
Local data: Preferences → Data → "Delete all local data." Cloud data (if you enabled sync): email privacy@maxxer.app from your account address.
Billing
How does the free trial work?
Full access for 7 days, no card required. If you don't start a paid plan the app becomes read-only at the end of the trial — your data stays intact.
Can I switch plans?
Yes, any time from your account settings. Upgrades are prorated; downgrades take effect at the end of the current billing period.
How do I cancel?
Account settings → Subscription → Cancel. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current period.
How do refunds work?
See our Refund Policy — the short version is: within 14 days of any charge, email us and we'll refund it.
Using the app
What's APM?
Actions per minute — every keystroke and click counts as one action. It's a proxy for output density during a session; not everything, but hard to fake.
What is Blitz?
Blitz is a focus session you commit to before starting. Once running you can't cancel it without breaking the streak, which is the point — the friction is the feature.
How do streaks and levels work?
A streak counts consecutive days where you hit your daily focus goal. Levels are unlocked by cumulative focused hours — small ambient recognition, not a grind.
Troubleshooting
APM isn't updating.
Nine times out of ten this is the Accessibility permission. System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility → make sure Maxxer is enabled. Quit and relaunch the app after toggling.
Maxxer keeps quitting.
Update to the latest version first (Maxxer menu → Check for updates). If the issue persists, email us with your macOS version and — if you can — a screen recording or the crash report from Console.app.
The leaderboard shows me at the wrong rank.
Leaderboard positions refresh every 5 minutes. If it's stale beyond that, sign out and back in to force a resync.
Still stuck?
Email support@maxxer.app. We usually reply within one business day.
